About

Zezheng “Freddie” Zhu is an optical scientist and experimentalist and a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Physics at Columbia University. His research spans meta-optics, nanofabrication, computational imaging, and biomedical optical systems.

Freddie works across device fabrication, optical characterization, system integration, and experimental validation. His projects include metasurface-enabled neural fluorescence imaging, polarization-based depth sensing, and large-scale optical tweezer arrays. He is particularly interested in connecting advanced optical technologies with other fields to create systems that extend beyond the capabilities of conventional optics.
